The Design & Material Selection
For this project we specified Techo-Bloc pavers, chosen for durability in Charlotte's freeze-thaw cycles and for the way the color and texture sit against the home's existing architecture. The layout was drawn to match the home's sight lines, the lawn's natural grade, and the way the family moves between the house, patio, and yard.

The beauty of the patio is built on a foundation of expert craftsmanship and a deep understanding of landscape engineering. This project was installed as a flowing 3-piece random pattern across approximately 556 sq. ft., providing a spacious and visually interesting area for dining, lounging, and entertaining. However, the longevity of any paver patio lies in the unseen work beneath the surface. The process began with proper excavation, followed by the installation of a robust ABC base (Aggregate Base Course). This crushed stone aggregate was laid and compacted with heavy machinery to a depth of approximately 4 inches, creating an incredibly stable, interlocking foundation that is the primary defense against sinking or shifting over time. On top of this base, a precisely-leveled layer of screenings was applied to provide the perfect bedding course for the pavers.
To ensure the integrity and lasting strength of the patio’s shape, a heavy-duty Snapedge restraint was nailed into the compacted base around the entire perimeter. This acts as an invisible frame, locking the pavers in place and preventing them from spreading apart under pressure. The final step in this professional installation was sweeping gray Polymeric sand into every joint. When carefully activated with water, this specialized sand hardens to form a durable yet flexible bond. This critical detail locks the pavers together into a unified surface, effectively resists weed growth, and deters insects, ensuring the hardscape remains a beautiful, low-maintenance source of happiness for years to come.
